For structural repair, West Systems epoxy. Use the paintable hardener version if it needs to be painted. All other, Durham's Rock Hard Water Putty:

Consider treating the wood with Bora Care to prevent rot and insects -this can be done in place.

I don't like the concrete and block footing for the columns to sit on idea. Rebuild as closely as original as possible, please.

I know nothing of how to tackle this kind of job. Might be worth contacting Brent Hull of Hull Historical out of Fort Worth, he specializes in this kind of thing.

Thanks for the reply's. I need to get the column capital issue resolved before we go to work on this thing. Did some looking on the net and found a couple of sources for the column capitals but no calls back yet from my contacts. I just need an out in case the capitals are to fragile to remove and keep in a reusable condition. The epoxy wood repair would work for sealing the column staves back together.

You may want to wrap the heck out of the capitals with shrink wrap to stabilize them. Also,you may find some useful info. in this article.
