I hope this is not the same as "who is your favorite child?"

I have been building a small cabin for myelf and am getting ready for paint. Is there a best paint? price is not much of a concern for me. I'll be doing white ceilings and some tans and browns on the walls. Most likely go with a satin finish or semi gloss.

I will not use Behr.

Maybe it'd be easier to ask which ones should I avoid and which ones to pick from.

How many options do you have in Cripple Creek? Do you travel to the springs for supplies?

I really like Diamond Vogel. Benjamin Moore doesn't have any stores here, but they do sell it through Ace hardware and a couple of farm and ranch stores.

The few times I've used the Benjamin Moore, I've had no complaints.

I travel to CO Springs yes... although there is a Sherwin Williams in Woodland Park too. (1/2 drive)

I've always thought SW was great paint but lately I heard from some people that it's not as god as it once was. A lot of commercial piant guys I've into into use PPG and swear by it. But nowadays my head spins just looking at all the brands these days.

I use Sherwin and Diamond Vogel. I will use Sherwin Wall & Wood Primer and their Proclassic for interior spray projects.

I also use Sherwin when the project is closer to their store than Diamond Vogel. 9 times out of 10, the client already has half empty SW cans for me to match.

When I am specing out the project, I will use DV for interior and exterior.
I still prefer the proclassic though for sprayed finishes.

SW irritates the heck out of me with how complicated their selections and pricing structures are. Different lines of paints for builders and homeowners, with different discount programs for each.

We used to have a lot of choices in town, but Sherwin bought Kelly Moore and Kwal, so now we just have Lowes, (which I think Sherwin bought their brand too?) and Home Depot.

Or Diamond Vogel. I like our local DV stores because they go above and beyond in getting the color matches as close as humanly possible.
Their paint works quite well also.

I exclusively use Sherwin Williams. Frankly their paint is very good BUT so much depends upon your application and expectations.
Their line primers can be exhausting but great is you have a specific need.
For your cabin I would use a quality primer, without knowing your specifics Premium Wall and Wood is excellent and so is mutilurpose. For a quality finish paint that will be durable and cleanable I would go with Duration. There are several other options if you want to pay more or less.

For wall paints I've have excellent results with Benjamin Moore Regal Select. PPG Manor Hall or Diamond 350 are also excellent choices.

For the ceiling I'd use Benjamin Ultra Spec 500 flat. For bathroom ceilings I'd use Regal Select or the PPG paint I mentioned in Eggshell.

I'd also recommend that you prime everything with Zinsser Bulls Eye 123.

A lot of folks on here keep talking about Benjamin Moore. Do you have actual Benjamin Moore stores that are contractor oriented, like a sherwin williams store is?
Exactly the same. Although Spectrum has come into the mix in some way I believe. Don't know much about that though. We haven't used them for a few years other than an occasional use.

What??!? No one is going to recommend Behr?

Another vote for BM, been using it for years with no issues. However, the one thing that does annoy me- From a contractors point of view- It is franchised, so if you work in different areas with different stores that are separately owned, the account and discount won't apply across the board. I do often mention it and get a break on price, however since my business is spread out to a few different stores, the total $ I spend on paint won't reflect on my account, as I have different cash accounts in different stores, and so possibly keeping me from getting a better discount reflecting how much I spend. (If that makes sense). So I try to keep going to the store closest to me as much as possible.

Anyways I am not a painting business so it is not a significant thing for myself, just worth mentioning. Their paint itself has never let me down.

A survey was done here last year on CT on contractor's paint preference and Behr was the one most contractors recommended.

Andy.

Wow.Maybe its change then. Last time I used it was about 10 years ago...it was the worse and a few contractor friends (painters) wouldn't use the stuff either.

I'm going with Benji Moore, Regal.
