recycle cast iron tub?

does anyone know rates for cast iron? trying to determine if it's worth while to take a cast iron tub to the scrap yard.

Most scrap yards want copper, aluminum, lead and brass. It is hard to unload steel but I Iron is do-able. I just got $.25/pound for miscelaneous metal. It was categorized as "Motors".

A plumber told me the other day he only gets a penny a pound for cast iron radiators. That seems low to me, but I think I only got a few cents a pound for "mixed metal" the last time I took some appliances.

last time i took a tub i think i got about $20 for it or somwhere around there. If you can leave it in front of a house in a bad neighborhood, and no one takes it, then you know it doesnt have a high scrap value.

If it's coming out in one piece anyway,
there are re-sale places that will pay
a lot more than scrap prices.
Look under "architectural salvage."
It isn't worth too much extra work
unless it's some 100 year old treasure.

Yes. That is the truth but a bit of work.

a truck rolls up as I'm unloading tools and a guy walks over and offers me $5 for the tub. I counter w/ $8, tell him he can probably get $20 and save the hassle of hauling that heavy tub to my scrap trailer-It's a deal to me!

Well said Kevin 10lb sledge with fiberglass handle takes them out the easy way.

I was approached three time in one morning by guys asking to take away our scrap metal. The one guy I usually contact told me he gets about $70.00 per 1,000 lbs.
