You guys need to step up your game... I suppose as a welding/machining enthusiast I have an unfair advantage...

But out at someone's home I would use a Milwaukee portable bandsaw...
I have a Dayton horizontal wet bandsaw just like that. Got it for $50 from a customer  It slices thru 1" steel like butter. Now an end mill would be dope!
Exactly. The heavy chrome rods will wreck a carbide blade very quickly. And if you're going to cut those rods with a blade that has teeth you better clamp it down hard and cut very carefully.

You can buy a cheap Rigid miter (not compound), put an abrasive blade on it, and cut all sorts of metal materials. Great for retail build-outs, which have clothes rods, display racks, tons of metal.
Why not just buy the right saw?

What a bunch of racket using cut-off saws. Not to mention if you know anything about commercial retail TI. The GC's want hot work permits for those flame throwers. Not something you want to use when there are finishes' installed.

Don't be a tosser, get a portaband.

Don't do it, I put one on my miter saw and plastic parts started to melt. An abrasive cut off saw is soooo cheap don't ruin your miter saw.

Also don't use a cut off saw, they don't cut that clean and the heat discolors the end of the pipe.

A Diablo Steel Demon circular blade will cut it like hot butter. I use one when making things out of metal , even more so then a cutting torch . Just put in my regular 7 1/4 saw and cut away.

Used all the above, except the slow wet blade cut offs.

Sawzall or thin cut off wheel on a grinder is as effective as a protaband. (stationary or hand held). Done and seen whole entire retail stores loaded with chrome rod, square, rectangles cut with them. 30 pcs ain't chit. You have the porta band or wet cut off, great use it. You want one, buy it and use it, but you don't really need it.

:whistling Fuggit Use an acetylene torch. More fun than all the other options.

harbor fright abrasive chop saw. Cheap, and put a good blade on it and square it up and its pretty accurate. Pretty much the only thing I use it for is cutting heavy closet rods, but it's worth having around just for that.

I use it outdoors. Easier than a band saw I think, and way more accurate than a hand grinder or sawzall. I tried using a regular chop saw once and didn't like the experience. So went and bought the abrasive chop for 50 or so.

Have you ever used a band saw?

Milwaukee 14" dry cut saw. No sparks but does leave little metal fillings behind so be carefull where you use it. works great and very portable
I beg to differ on the no sparks. I have a Dewalt dry cut saw and no matter what brand blade I use it almost always throws sparks. Cut in the dark and you will see. Nothing compared to an abrasive saw though. The metal chips are a pain to clean up too, or they leave rust spots. Guess how I know? Don't let any creature walk barefoot after cutting either. If you consider 50lbs of machinery portable, then yeah, it's not too bad.

Have you tried this? I put an Oshlun non-ferrous on my kapex and set the speed down. Wouldn't cut. Had to switch to an angle grinder with cut off wheel.

Closet rods are made of ferrous metal...non-ferrous blade doesn't work so hot.

It also can turn the metal blue near the cut and you will never get all of the metal dust off the ground or the floor. After it rains the concrete will have rust areas and if painted or finished with water based products rust will show up in 1 week. Ask me how I know.
