Hi Pros,
i currently have a CA C-7 licence, and i am taking the trade exam for the C-10. Found it difficult to pass, even though i read through all the prep stuff(from Allied Contractor's School), it seems the material from school is TOTALLY unrelated to the state exam.

Just wondering if anyone know a better way to pass the c-10 trade, i had taken the exam twice...PLEASE HELP! thanks very much!!!!

I have a friend of mine that passed his C-10 last year in California. I do not have a C-10, but I am learning electrical, although I have a General license.

Apparently, he bought a bunch of Mike Holt's stuff (around $2000), and passed with what he learned from Holt. Now I get to use all of his Holt books and dvds...

Mike Holt: I am not allowed to post a link, so just google him.

How difficult it is to pass I am sure is directly related to how long you have been an electrician. I thought the c10 was extremely easy almost a joke. Thats compared to the ca general electricians test and Michigans j-mans test. I will be taking the masters in michigan soon and I have a feeling the california c10 will be like taking a fourth grade spelling test. Nothing personal but maybe you should not be an electrical contractor just yet.

Just wandering, but for those of us who are not from CA, what is the difference between a C7 and C10? Thanks

You got this one right

I have EE degrees and studied the Allied School material and just like you having a hard time passingt the exam. I have been in the firmware and Software development for the past 17 years, but I need the C-10 for some of the consulting work that I am doing and I have to tell you these Allied school material is total junk. Need to locate better study material...

myself as well am studying for the CA C-10 license exam . .am studying test with local contractors school

let us remember that it is irrelevant that I have been in this trade for 15 years . .and have numerous great references..amongst them Inspectors . .
. .this is ONLY about memorizing the answers to a test written by liberals
. .which may have squat to do with whatever part of the industry you work in

personally I dont remember ever building or repairing an building site transformer . .or the POCO even letting us meddle with them . . .but strangely the test seems directed at EE's...POCO Companies Power generation people .and Union trained folk working on municipal projects

it is also irrelevant the new test this year has many stupid...misleading pictures and questions . . . .math formulas . .I havent used once since I took them the first time years ago . . .etc etc etc etc ad nuaseum

its about passing a test written by liberals for a specific target

one simply has to continue to memorize the answers . .in order that you may have the privelege of working in your trade and making an living

"memorize the answers"
Where do get the set of the questions for the C10 exam? The Allied School practice tests only covers about 20% of the exam questions...Any better practice tests out there for the C10??

I decided that after talking to my other C-10 friends to use the CSLS
here in Modesto Contractors State Licensing Schools . .they werent cheap either . . .a sqwauk under a grand . . .which got me all of the test questions/answers , 6 weeks of classes . .CD's..computer labs . .systematic
ramp-up of practice exam scoring......all of the math needed . .( stuff you'llnever use unless you are a POCO operator, . .power generation engineer,..factory transformer b uilder etc etc }

if I dont pass with this type and level of support ?. . . .hell I just didnt study hard enough . . .and at nearly 60 I better pass
. . . . .lots of memorization of charts I dont need to memorize on an daily basis . .since my truck hs a good standard library . . .well its just good brain food

Law portion is all there as well

whats Allied cost? and what did you recievefrom them?

Allied School Material and C10 Exam

I got set of the tests and CDs/DVDs and tade manual. The trade manual is poorly developed and has basic stuff about the Electrical Theory only, and some diconnected material about the codes without any proper structure.

The CDs/DVDs are all about EE theory as well which do not help me much. As I mentioned I have the theory background and scored close to perfect on the system design section of the C10 test. My main problem is the rough wiring and trouble shooting section which I scored low. If I can locate some good material and test practices I am sure I can pass that as well.
The Allied material has not helped and thier customer support sucks. These dudes have no clue what they are selling!!! I think they outsource the content development of the course to some electrical guy and after the development of the content they do not know how support it or evolve it to better presentation. They (Allied) are pushing papers and CDs/DVDs and collecting fees...
