Sorry if this has been covered, I tried to search but couldn't figure it out.

Customers have a nice IPE deck and want a clear or natural toned sealant put on. What do you guys recommend? I was looking at Thompson's clear waterseal or Timber Oil.

I've only used Messmer's Hardwood UV oil on ipe. It darkens it up a bit but looks nice. It's easy for the HO to recoat which is why we've used it but I'm planning on TWP for my next hardwood project after seeing what others, on here, have done with it.

I'm a convert. Its a bit trickier to get the hang of but afterward you'll be amazed. No more beautiful wood turning a mold black look after 6 months. Just visited my annual recoat on a garapa/ipe deck. Looks great, no problems at all.

I hope so, indiana's wealth of hardwood trees can turn an oiled deck black in a few months. Maple trees are the worst.

I can only get the 1500 series twp here.

I have 5 gallons that will be going on tomorrow.

2 gallons of twp 1500 applied.

Penetrating finish, yeah right.

Even after 30 minutes I still have to wipe the stuff off.

Apply two coats like the can says, only if you want to be there all night.

If this turns black like messmers, ipe oil, etc. I will be looking for some kind of water based finish, or be so expensive no one wants me back.

Darcy , they have replaced the Devil voc with an oil. Takes much longer to set up, much much longer.

Try Storm Shield. It has the reverse issue, sets up too fast. It can be shipped any place and if any thing out preforms the 100 series. Same build coat ability.

Here's an ipe deck re-finish job I did this week. Used the big sander on the floor & pressure washer on the stairs & railing post. I used a blend of twp 101 (cedar) & 116 (rustic) on the ipe then added some dark oak for the cedar pool deck.
