I am looking for a solution maybe you guys can help:

Special needs tenant keeps punching/kicking holes in the drywall.

Since he is a protected class, the client is basically screwed.

I need drywall that will not break no matter how hard he hits it. Would abuse resistant drywall be strong enough, or should I upgrade to a ballistic grade?

Abuse board is used a lot commercially in hospitals where we are. It can certainly take a beating, but nothing is impenetrable. If your going to the extent of opening the wall up, how about adding studs to 12" centers and then covering with abuse board? How many feet of wall need to get done?

when we built banks, we used method described above, plywood covered with drywall. That situation was not so much for the abuse part, but just creating a barrier that would take long enough to get through that the police would be there when they hit the other side.

Lol plywood? I seriously didn't think of that.

He mostly just punches and kicks the walls. I have already done over 80 patches in his walls. It's getting really old haha.

We're talking stud to stud patches nothing big. 16 X 24 inches. So I question that on pathes that size whether or not tough board would work.

How about 3/4", a layer of flooring underlayment and then 1/8" thick steel sheets.;)

If you want to keep it a drywall finish. ply, the toughest gypsum board you can find and then a layer of base coat over that. Base coat is damn tough stuff. Pretty much impossible to sand. Might have to put a bonding agent on the drywall.

Chances are he won't stop kicking and hitting until he actually does make a hole in the wall. He probably needs some different kind of meds and he would settle down.

Funny stuff guys, I needed the laughs. Especially the one with nails!

These are patches though in 1/2 inch drywall. So it kinda has to blend in a little bit. I could use 3 buckets of mud and feather out the edges from using 3/4 inch plywood....Would have to use my 3 foot paint shield as mud knives though:thumbup::laughing::clap:

I did consider filling the walls with concrete, but I am afraid the walls would bulge  I would like to see him kick that wall:whistling

I built a High School awhile back and they spec'ed this stuff, I can't remember what it's called, but it's almost like a masonite shell, then gyp, then more of the masonite on the other side. It's tough stuff. I was so impressed with it I used it in my shop. I invite any one who thinks they can to come try to punch a hole in it:no:

Not sure I would want to get involved with making an impenetrable wall. What happens when the guy goes to punch it and breaks his hand. I can almost guarantee there will be a lawyer all ready to find the money.
Ain't no different than hitting a stud.
