Just curious, was propane heat ever used, either for temp construction heat or permanent heat during the time when this was applied? That's some caulk-yellowin' stuff, that propane.

Painters caulk yellows. That's why you usually caulk first and then paint. I still want to expiriment with the Ben Moore color match stuff to see how is holds up. I use DAP Dynaflex and it will yellow in a week or so if not painted.

I've had really good luck with with the Red Devil Create-a-color caulk. They started selling it at my local BM about 10 years ago. It's handy for caulking to stain work or any place where you don't want to have to come back and paint it for whatever reason. Holds its color well and isn't prone to crack or collect dust. I know Red Devil is junk in the caulk world, but in this one case it works well.

The newer BM stuff Exactcolor, seems to be just as good but I've only used it for a couple years. It's easier to mix than the Red Devil, doesn't require any special tools. I think the reason these caulks aren't as prone to collect dirt or discolor is the fact that they have paint as the colorant.
