I have to caulk in the windows and doors to brick just looking for any advice on the best way to apply quad. Does the old fashion way of spit on finger work fine or is there a better technique. Thanks
Have you had a problem with it sticking to masonry (I haven't)? If so what type of issue did you have?I wouldn't use Quad if it had to stick to brick, I would use Sikaflex and mask off the brick with some painters tape so you get a clean line.
What kind of gun are you using for OSI?Apply properly with gun/tube. No finger work. A good gun is the key to chalking.
Vaseline as mentioned or WD-40.

No but I've seen quad shrink and crack. I quit using that stuff a while ago, I use either Sikaflex or Titebond.tjbnwi said:Have you had a problem with it sticking to masonry (I haven't)? If so what type of issue did you have?
Their website shows masonry on the home page;

Thanks, I've used the Titebond but have had problems with bad tubes, already set by the time I got them. I'd love to use more of the Sika products, just not popular here. Not sure if anyone stocks their chalks.No but I've seen quad shrink and crack. I quit using that stuff a while ago, I use either Sikaflex or Titebond.
Probably means they were sitting on the shelf for too long, quad would do the same thing. Sometimes Sika is hard to find, homedepot and lowes won't carry them. Usually the smaller building supply stores have it, I used it to seal some brick around windows a couple years back, so far it's held up pretty good. If I used Quad then I bet by now it would be trash, just from experience using it in the past.tjbnwi said:Thanks, I've used the Titebond but have had problems with bad tubes, already set by the time I got them. Tajima;What kind of gun are you using for OSI?
I saw it shrink and crack once a couple weeks after I used it. I thought maybe it was just me but then a painter told me the same thing, he said he got tired of call backs from using Quad. Where do you live where Sikaflex isn't around?Tweed11 said:Sika is not available in my area so quad will have to do. I used it before and thought it was a good caulk.
Was it painted or not? I know if you paint it too soon it will get that crinckly look but I think thats the paint layer cracking on the caulk as the caulk cures and shrinks a little. I haven't had a problem if the Quad gets a few days to cure before painting.I saw it shrink and crack once a couple weeks after I used it. It was painted, I thought I gave it enough time but I don't remember. Later I caulked a whole house using Titebond and I never saw one crack, so I quit using Quad after that.Windwash said:Was it painted or not? If I recall correctly, Titebond Weathermaster can be painted with water based after an hour, OSI requires a few days, maybe even a week, before it can be painted.It was painted, I thought I gave it enough time but I don't remember. What kind of issues were you having with the titebond? Solidified tube or was it kind of like oatmeal chunks in the bead?The Titebond was still in the use by date by more than 6 months. The supplier stopped handling it due to all the bad tubes he was getting back.
