I've got the Mac2400 and it's great. Fast recharge time and quiet. I burned out 2 oil free compressors within a year so I researched compressors and this one got good reviews. It's heavy, but other than that it's a solid compressor. I've even used it to spray lacquer with an hvlp gun.

Everything I've read about this compressor has been positive. I'll end up buying this one, the MAC5200, or one of the RolAir equivalents of the two. Being that the MAC5200 and RolAir VT25BIG both weigh over 100 lbs. it's probably going to be the MAC2400 or similar sized RolAir that I buy.

iirc.

Most of the smaller rol-air stuff is made by makita for rol-air.

I know it sounds weird, but the specs are identical

(mac 2400. and mac 5200) When I asked the guys at the specialty tool shop, he said rol-air sources them from makita.

The 2400 is a great compressor, I have one. and its very quiet compared to a regular twinstack.. way quieter

They do resemble each other quite a bit ... especially the MAC5200 and Rolair VT25BIG. MAC's are less expensive, and if Makita makes them both then I'm essentially getting the same compressor, so I can't justify paying more for the Rolair.

MAC2400 or MAC5200 is what it's down to now. Only $50.00 more for the MAC5200 ... hard decision.

Just got off the phone with Rolair 920-349-3281 they said they absolutely don't get there compressors from Makita. As a matter of fact Makita doesn't make one compressor. 96% of all Rolair Compressors are made by Rolair in Wisconsin. He did say Rolair and Makita buy there pumps from the same vendor of some models.

In that sense, neither does your precious rolair. They are just buying the components and putting them together in WI, big deal. Makita is doing the same.

I have been seeing quite a few issues reported about the JC-10's right out of the box. Mostly component issues, pressure gauges and limit switches.

I could see supporting a company that is actually manufacturing their compressors here vs. Sourcing the components and assembling them here.

Have you checked out Jenny? They're pretty much the old Emglo's.

If you don't need the cfm, I'd get the 2400. I think it runs at 1700 rpm (quiet) vs the 5200 which runs at 3400 I think)

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

So same pump, different components?

Looking at them side by side, there is a LOT of similarities.

The 5200 does have wheels... Occasionally wish I would have gotten that one just for that fact.
Starting to get too old to be carrying these heavy compressors around, and modding the 2400 with some type of wheel set up could easily cost $50.00 (the difference in price between the 2400 ad the 5200). Considering the higher CFM the 5200 will deliver, the wheels, and a few other little features that the 5200 has that the 2400 doesn't have, I've just about made up my mind to go for the 5200. If it's too loud indoors, we may wind up getting the 2400 later on ... or a louder jam box ;) But, I think there's no way the 5200 could be louder than our old Porter Cable oil-free twin stack ... that thing was LOUD.
