Hi Folks,
I'm doing a large drywall job. The ceilings are exposed 2x6 beams and my customer wants it to be drywalled. The beams are 24" on center and frankly I hate 24" centers. SO rather than hang the rock directly on the 2x6 I was thinking of installing furring strips perpendicular on 16" centers.
This got me thinking what would be best to use as a furring material. The box stores sell the cheapy 1x3x8' furring strips but I find them to split too easily. I found a box store that carries 5/4 furring strips (for bridging) but they are significantly more. Anyone have any suggestions/input as to what might be better? I can deal with the splitting if it really won't matter but the cost difference is pretty big.
Just thought I'd see what others use.
Thanks for any input. It's much appreciated.
