Can someone recommend the best method for attaching vinyl windows on new construction. I have used deck screws and they work good but the heads are not flat and if you overdrive them it can split the flange. I have also used roofing nails because they are flat. Only problem with roofing nails is if you are a one man show you cannot unscrew and make adjustments if needed. Just curious if anyone else has a better suggestion.

set it in the opening and nail it tight into the opening via the hurricane straps on the inside of the opening. then level it and nail off the nailing flange from the outside

MAybe read the installation instructions on the WWW

Start on the sill, find the high corner, add a screw. Raise the low corner to level, add a screw. Plumb the jamb, add a screw. Add a screw to the opposite jamb then go inside and check functionality. If good, finish with roofing nails. Repeat.

I kind of do it this way, only one screw in the high corner of the sill though. Then nails the rest of the way.

Biggest issue is most brands want silicone behind the flange. Thats tough to do with one person if the opening is way out.

I used to only use 1 screw in the sill but had a few pull out of level as I plumbed the jamb. So now it's 2 screws for me.

I always dry fit first then take it back out and silicone the flanges, all but the bottom flange. I set the sill on a pan and run a fat bead of silicone on the pan before setting the window.
