Rich I do use it on the deck beams, between hardware, top of post cuts, behind and on top of ledgers and on top of my stringer cuts.

The manufacturer has some excessive suggestions.http://www.na.graceconstruction.com/custom/flashings/downloads/26324_Guide-A.pdf

I read from thier site that only soft/ flexible plastic like weatherstripping is not not compatible with either product but rigid plactsic nailing flanges are fine.

You use what? Deck protector?, ice and water?, vycor?, v 40?

Yea now that i think of it, the bad thing about ice and water is it can "burn and discolor" some pvc's and vinyls.

But in reality, It protects just as good as vycor. Just the asphalt base attacks some things. Plus its slip resistaint like the grace deck protector product.

So as long as the ice and water is not in contact with the things it dislikes (which it shouldnt be anyway if the house wrap will isolate it from vinyl siding) ice and water is fine. I dont cover the top of my joists, just the beams so it should never even come in contact with the decking.

The only place you have to watch is using it at door openings.

The spec I read on the site explains that soft plastic like weatherstripping on a door sweep or similar soft materials like a shower curtain would degenerate but not a nailing flange on a window. They do make a point of explaining it on the technical notes.

From what I can see, this type is chemically the same. They express concern for using the tape on roofs because it is not slip resistant.

The compatibility problem is actually the opposite of what you would think.
The asphalt in the Vycor is not affecting the Vinyl.

Some flexible vinyls (and some caulks) have plasticizers in them. These plasticizers can leach out of the vinyl and cause the asphalt in the Vycor to soften and even liquefy. In extreme cases you can end up with a black ooze running down your windows as well as a compromised flashing job. In lesser cases you might just see a black stain on the windows.

It took me a while to really understand what the compatibility issue was so I wanted to pass the info along.
