dewalt 12" mitre saw.

Use an old blade
HAHAHA....

Make a video if you try this, and of course only try if you don't like your hand/arm...

I had a guy break a wormdrive saw trying to cut a roll, sawzall gums up, bandsaw wasn't tried but would have the best chance of working but I think it'll gum up real bad too.

We would just jam the blade into the plywood with a knife that has a quick release and then release it leaving the blade stuck good. Just unroll it flat across the plywood and once you get it going just pulling it through the blades, once you've pulled the whole roll through cut up your cardboard tube and roll them back up.

When we tried with the sawzall the cut end was so gummed up and stuck together that we could not get it to unroll without completely destroying itself.

In truth we only split 6" rolls and not a full 36" roll but we did the same thing (smaller scale) and I see no reason why a 36" would be much different.

We don't use much window tape when we switched to steel frames so I typically don't bother splitting things anymore.

So is vycor and ice and water basically the same stuff?

I've done it several times

Just use an old blade
it's important not to let the roll bind or it will kick

Ok so i sacraficed a roll of ice and water as a test dummy just now.

I tried a cordless circ saw with a 40 tooth blade and that just melted it.

So i used my olfa knife and just kept going around the roll and slicing it. Took like 5 min and worked well.

vycor is rubberized, ice and water is asphalt based.. two different things.. you cant use ice and water on vinyl windows and doors and not expect to get a reaction causing the vinyl to break down

as for cutting it.. a band saw will get destroyed from all the gum up. a recip will work just have a bbq lighter right next to you and a bucket of cold water.. the lighter will burn off the gum then cool the blade in the water

last year i worked on a 86 unit building that had something like 500 windows.. of which there were only 3 sizes.. the whole building got blueskin of which took over a dozen pallets worth to cover the building.. we cut lenghts of it off the roll to the lenght needed to flash the windows and doors then cut that down to 6`strips.. one guy cutting the other guy installing.. we had a story pole marked out for the lenghths to cut off the role and the widths..

weve talked about doing the same thing for windows and doors at work (different compay... residential) using nudura membrane instead since we get it for much cheaper than what we pay for the same sq ft worth of vycor

nudura membrane is nice
i was flashing windows with blue skin... uhh lets just say.. if its it supposed to look like a raisin, then i did it right :whistling

cut your piece to lenght nick, then roll it back up really tight.. only peel off a foot or so of paper at a time. makes it much easier to work with and you dont get it stuck to itself also makes for a far cleaner job

some guys pull the paper off the entire length and try to install it... doesnt work so well and even worse if its windy out

Are you able to unroll it without the cut end sticking to the next layer? That was the issue we ran into with anything that got it hot.

The saw i tried melted it and it did stick together. I stopped that quickly. I then just grabed my olfa snap off utilty knife, (which i used for the length of the blade) and started manually going around the roll and slicing it. That worked good.

Are you using ice & water on ur decks or vycor?

we dont use it much with the steel frame so we just grab vycor window tape when we do need it.
What do you use behind the ledger?
