Man this stuff is nice to work with. Second floor shower with Kohler cast iron pan. 7 sheets of material and a tube of sealant per sheet plus one extra for niche.Had the shower ready to tile in about 1.5 hours. Expensive, yes, but fast for those special projects. This was the only full bath in the house so the push was on. Only downside was one sealant tube was very stiff so getting out was a b...

Tech D, Wedi has their own. The sealant is very sticky and like rubber when dry. The sealant gets smoothed with a putty knife right after it's applied. I made the mistake after waiting too long to smooth one seam and it looked very rough. I was able to shave down some thicker portions of sealant with a razor knife. And in another spot that was rather high with sealant, I wacked it with a hammer and the foam compressed but didn't open the sealed joint. Any tipped washers also got a slight tap with a hammer to level them before the sealant was applied. Their corner trowel is a must have, too.

BTW, I used the sealant to attach a wayward mosiac on another job. It dries fairly quick and has a thick consistancy to support the small tile. It might be a good product to squirt into any holes (theresholds, towel bars) that are in the shower, too.

I know it's faster but need more time about better. It's just another system to use to me. Like golf clubs. Choose what you need for a particular situation.

I haven't used a WEDI pan, yet so I don't know anything about the drain. After seeing their video, it seems very easy. Like most drains, you gotta believe in the attachment procedure.

Custom has come out with a new shower pan that has a mesh overlay and is very rigid. No limit on small tile size like Schluter. But I like to make my own pans with mud so it would need to be a special circumstance for me to use a pre-made pan.
