My project is a 1930's brick home in the Chicago area. It has a 10" foundation wall with 2 layers of brick. I will be replacing the second floor joists which rest on the brick layers with truss joists. Does anyone have any recommendations of anchoring the 2x plate which the joist bears on? The architecht suggested to drill and grout or epoxy threaded rods. The wall is 7" and the plate would favor the inner course. I believe Simpson Stong Tie makes anchors for all applications. Would Simpson be the best direction or are there any other recommendations? Thank you for your help. Joe

You are going to set a sill plate on the masonry wall, then put floor trusses on the plate? Then you will sheath the floor trusses?

Why are you worried about fastening the sill plate down? Are you expecting something to lift up the floor?

How deep are your floor trusses? How much space do you have to work with in the wall?

Or are you talking about attaching a ribbon to the masonry and setting the floor trusses on the ribbon?

This would be up to your local code requirements. Whatever they say, you do. Or not, it's pretty much your choice.

Re: Method Of Anchoring The 2x Plate On 2 Layers Of Brick

Since the carpenter does not use this forum (or any other forum) we are helping by facilitating, in any way, this project.
