Hi!
brand new here and this is my first post.
sorry for not introducing myself as yet, i will get to it as soon as i get out of this cursed house/job and have time sit long enough to actually be courteous...

i have a bedroom with 2 walls to be wallpapered, 18' ceilings 15' wide.
i prepped the walls, filled the scrapes, divots, holes and gouges. now the fun part...
I primed with Kilz2 applied "sure grip" adhesive to the back of the paper, booked for 3-4 min and applied. came back the next day to find one complete wall on the floor. tried again. . . . peeled again. . . ?!?!? About 50% of one wall was useless, needed to be done again. and about 10% of the other wall was touched up.

am i missing something?
i spoke with a hanger and he told me there is a chem in Killz that DEactivates a component of all adhesives. something they will not admit to at this point and now, apparently i need to sand it off apply a sizer or product called 808 and beging again. . wtf?

has anyone else heard of this problem with Kilz?

i applied to the wall AND the back of the paper (and let it book for about 5min) today and my fingers are crossed that it is still up in the morn.

any and all info is greatly appreciated....

Specific formulated products for wallcoverings are the preffered method.

Because an item says primer, and its obviously cheaper, does not mean its formulated for a base for walloverings.

Hard lesson to learn, but spend the money on a proper sizing method. that way you have a leg to stand on when things fail.

thats a no brainer, kilz 2 is the water based cheapie, why you can get ordinary drywall primer and pay like. Bullseye is ten bucks more and at least it is shiney. You want the paint to be suctioned to the wall but if it don't hold moisture there is no suction. Only on old hard plaster can you throw up paper without much but even then a size is good sense. Papers now adays are so old you need to glue the wall anyhow as the old glue is too weak usually,it'll stick allright, just won't come off when you want it to.

Use Roman wallpaper primer R35. It supplies tack and gloss to easily position wallcovering.. If your dealing with prepasted wallpapers try diluteing the paste 10-1 with water and apply with a roller. Let book at least 2 minutes. Always make sure paper is level and don't stretch. It will pull away from seam as the drying procedure occurrs.

Use a real wallpaper primer, such as Roman wall size. It provides tack and maneuvering of wallcovering for positioning.

Interestly I was asked to look at a problem with wallpaper coming loose. Turns out the paper had been primed with Kilz and then the paper came off. My suggestion was to remove all the paper and prime with the correct primer.
I like using Sherwin Williams Prewallcovering primer. I have tried the Roman primer also but just prefer the SW.

For anyone reading this post in the future. Kilz can solve lots of problems but it is not a wallpaper primer.

Romans pro-999 is suggested. Why? I t dries wiyh a residual tack, no bubbleing, and allow for easy application. The wallpaper size is a very important process in installations. You will find this product very effective.

Maybe because it creates a vapor barrier and is gloss and dries to a hard finish. Try sanding primer then hang but I recommend Roman Pro-999 or pro-935 for pre pasted wallcoverings

We just finished a job hanging paper in several rooms and I got a call that one sheet was coming loose. We had primed that corner with kilz odorless because of some water damage. Definitely kilz and wallpaper paste do not work together.

Do not use kilz. Use Roman latex size. I prefer 909. The finish is glossy which you would think be ideal, however, there is a chemical resistance to the paste. Use only recommended primers your local paint retailer can help you with this. In Chicago I recommend Roman products, Shielz by Zinnser, or Muralo Adhedsium.
