I am remodeling a master bedroom that was a carport with a concrete pad poured over the original pad to level it with the home. This was done 15 years ago. It had a big termite problem. All drilled and treated and I am looking for termite proof drywall. I see old news about EcoRock but can't find any suppliers. Then there is DensArmour Plus but it specifically doesn't say its termite resistant. Covering metal studs. Any suggestions? Thanks.

That's true. It happened in my office where they had eaten the whole inner side of the drywall panel that was up against the exterior wall before they barrelled their way through and created this massive swarm in my conference room:eek:

IMO if you handle the termite problem, you won't need special drywall. But if the termite problem still exists, the drywall will be the least of your concerns.;)

Yes you are correct, the problem is the concrete pad over a concrete pad as the termites can find the control joint in the bottom pad and enter under the top concrete pad and exit anywhere. All precautions were taken and one of the control joints were visible as it mirrored through the top concrete pad but one did not. So I made an educated guess to its location and drilled and sub slab injected every ten inches with Bayer Premise. Also due to the hardness of the earth here in the southwest the absortion rate varried durring treatment.

I hate gypsum drywall and was looking for a better alternitave. I ran across EcoRock but all I can find is info, no supply. I also found DensArmor Plus but it doesnt specify termite resistant.

The termites here will bore through gypsum, eat the paper & find there way to the rafters. The concrete slab is poured seperate from the wall footing so the termites have access to all the exterior walls. With the injection of Bayer Premise it will kill them.

Thank god we only have to deal with ants. I did find it odd one day in our shop, the ceiling and walls are covered in tuff r insulation. Kept hearing munch munch munch. Was like wtf is that noise. Went into the attic nothing there. everyday it was in the same damn spot. Finally i got mad and smacked the spot on the ceiling with a 2x. About a million carpenter ants fell out, they ate all the foam out from in between the foil face. Why an ant would eat foam i have no idea but they did a damn good job of getting every last piece of it. Maybe they took it home to keep the ant hill warm?

Termites are amazing. My shop is a block building with cement slab and roof. There is very little wood in the entire building. About 5 years ago we had a termite infestation in the ceiling of the bathroom. That was understandable but was amazing is the travled thru the blocks and tunnled out the grout under the paint all along the block walls. Some of the holes I uncovered were 3/8" in diameter. Replaced the ceiling, Had the walls treated and also under the slab and no problem since.

I wonder if fire rated drywall or drywall rated for bathrooms like MR or XP may have something in the paper that they might not want to eat? Or could you treat the drywall itself as you put it up.

Cheers, Jim
