What do you do with the extra kerdi band and corner pieces that come with the drain?? You must have a stock pile of that
yeah I have alot of them. and also check the latest thing out for long lasting toliet paper. just fits perfect in the holder. schulter is a good product serioursly. if my rep would talk to me like laticrete does I would prob use them more. Our rep here seems to favor who he wants to buddy up to. Hell sad part is he lives about 5 miles from and I cant get him to answer a phone or emails.

But here is the funniest thing yet. while away in north carolina a tile installer from JB forums ordered stuff thru schulter and sent them to my house with his name on it. they dont even send me literature. Just funny.

Laticrete answers thier phone they also get involved on forums. Hell Henry is a active JB forums member. Who can top that. Like I said I just had a bad rub with them and not bashing them. Last time i checked its america home of the free speech. Unless you get banned from JB forums for talking outloud. :w00t:

that toilet paper roll is epic... Here in toronto that kerdi roll is about $25. Expensive toilet paper.

Nothing wrong with KERDI or SCHULTER. Its just tile humor in that picture is all. I have done kerdi showers and yes i will say this outloud. If I did them alot I would be able to get the corners tighter. its like riding a bike the more ya do it the faster and better ya get. Is liquid easier yes. But LATICRETE's warranty ya cant beat. And the warranty is what sells and the whole family of LATICRETE people behind it.

How many companies out there can you call the CEO and they answer thier cell phone? Yes Henry is few far and between. But the guy pays attention of all the installers out there on top of his daily pile of bussiness stuff.

I went to schulter school it was a great learning exp. To see the high guys get down and do mud. WOW. Did I learn stuff from there yes I did.

Kerdi is faster for dry time yes. Dry time with a liquid is time issue in a scedule.

Only one problem... its waterproof so I'd imagine it would be hard to use if you had the runs! LOL
I was actually thinking about that. Kerdi has no absorption, water beads on it, so in fact it would be utterly useless as toilet paper.

Opie with your left overs you should make a rain jacket, now thats a slick use of kerdi

 Good post Dan.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell - I think all the people that complain about the corners and buildup issues with Kerdi just don't use it that often. I have no problems getting tight corners and I have learned to install with minimal seams. I typically do a tub surround with one long horizontal seam which gets floated with thinset. Have had no issues with subway or 4x4s - smaller might be but I don't see that enough to worry about it.

I will say this. Laticrete's customer service, supply chain, and warranty can't be beat period. Schluter could learn a thing or ten from them in those departments for sure.

I think the main thing is find a method that works for you and learn all the little tricks to that method and stick with it long enough to get proficient at it. In all reality water proofed is water proofed. Who gives a damn what color it is. Still beats the hell outta greenboard and mastic

Is the secret to make the thinset thinner when applying the kerdi? I didnt have much build up. I did a tub surround a few months ago and used it for the first time. I took a roll and used one vertically in the center of the 60" wall, then one vertical on each end of the tub, and they lapped the corners with no seams there, and I ended up with two butt seams on the 60" wall of the tub. I used kerdi-band over those seams. I think maybe my thinset was maybe too thick. and I will wet down the greenboard next time.
I know there is a learning curve and eventually I'll get down to NC, but right now can't make that happen.
