good day
little intro first...name is todd I run a small remodeling business in TN

WARNING: I am not a painter I'm a contractor that paints once in a while

spraying solid wood doors
client has about 8 doors and a whole house full of trim that I would like to paint before we install it.
spraying sw primer with a graco tradeworks 170 using a brand new fine finish tip, thinned it with about 3/4 cup of water to a gallon

the problem when I let go of the trigger it "spits" paint out...just a little trail but it really screws with the painting and the project. the doors cost 500 a piece and I've got about $7500 worth of trim.....don't want to screw this up.

any help would be great.
Thanks

Dont take it personally, but hire a professional. Sounds like the same ole thing, expensive product needing finished perfectly, and yet you cheap out by not hiring a seasoned pro, less headaches and no damaged product. :whistling

Thanks

Thanks to all that helped with my problem....to any I offended by, not hiring a professional painter or posting the question here and on another forum I'm sorry.

Thanks again for the help.

Just curious: If you don't paint/spray that much, why are you attempting to finish high dollar doors and trim? This job definitely doesn't sound like one you want to learn on, but rather a job that must be done right the first time. Mistakes on a project like this are expensive and will most likely put you considerably off schedule, unless you are making the doors/trim. You need to decide if you truly have the skills, at this time (not to say you won't be at that level at some point), to pull this off successfully.

There is nothing wrong with hiring outside help. In fact, you could do better for your company by subcontracting the areas you are weaker in and focusing on what you are best at.

$500 is an expensive door?

It is paint, you can take it off, especially if you are just going to paint it again. Just costs the painter time and some extra paint.

Now it you trim it to short or drill the handle hole on the wrong side then that is a really bad thing.

But yes, get the issue fixed so you don't have to deal with the problem.

If I had the issue and needed to continue I would make sure that I let go of the trigger while the gun was pointed away from the door. I do a lot of finishing and even the smallest extra drop is very annoying and shows.

Oh ****! Its only *****, you can just ***** it , it ONLY costs the ******* time and material? ARE YOU *******?

Now if you drill for the ******* on the wrong side thats ***? Whats the problem? It only costs the ********* a **** and time? Tell me the difference>

Its only bad if it happens to you, everyone elses problems are exactly that. Their problem.

I've been finishing for quite some time now and have come up with a lot of drama in that time. Painting is usually more simple to do as the reactions to different things are usually not as bad. Hardest thing is it is usually in an uncontrolled environment.
