Re: Spent Map Gas And Propane Bottles

They showed how to fully empty propane tanks on hillbilly blood. Of course these were the kind you use on fork lifts. They said they're never really fully empty. Idk if it's the same for these.

I realize that's a rhetorical come back.....

Equalization of pressure internally to outside air pressure, there will still be no or very little air in the tank. And certainly no where near the explosive limit (proper mixture of air and flammable gas to ignite).

I once put a saw kerf through a gas pipe. Scared the living bejesus out of me. At first from the sound I thought it was a water pipe. In hindsight I'm glad it was gas. At least I didn't have any water damage.

Everyone knows you're supposed to use a grinder to cut open empty tanks.

My old boss used to smoke next to open gas lines. Used to freak me out as I had just started and didn't know a thing about gas. Couple weeks on and didn't bother me at all. Never did see one ignite from it.

Unless you invert the tank with an open valve...

And the LP gas would "fall" out due to gravity. Seeing as how the specific gravity of LP is heavier than air.

I did that once when checking for a leak under my house.

Must have been leaking for quite a while, blew the whole thing up, all walls gone, roof blown to pieces and I died.

Andy.

I go plinking with some buddies and use the empties as targets. Sometimes there's a bit of gas left in them, and if the round sparks just right while striking the tank, you get a really nice 'kaboom!'

That's impossible according to BC.

Not impossible. Just don't happen very often at all. Happens even less on empty bottles.

We have shot them with everything from S&W 500, shotguns, 308's, 9mm, 45's, 5.56, 30-06 and with everything from tracers to "armor piecing" and not one blown up yet. But then again I was not in a movie when shooting them.

My trash guys tell me if it's empty, just chuck it in the trash...and that's exactly what I do.
