HAZ Waste Operations

Since nobody posted anything but jokes in the HAZ Waste section, thought I'd post something related to the field

I spent 22 years Designing/Building/Remodeling/Maintaining/Decommission Service Stations, Design/Install Turn-Key AST/UST Fueling Systems, UST Removal/Disposal/Decommissioning, UST Precision Tank & Piping Testing & Certification, Dispenser Calibration, Removed approx. 1,000 UST's and Installed 350-400 throughout Northern CA, Oregon & INEL/DOE in Idaho Falls.

Installation of Ground Water Treatment Systems, Leak Detection/Monitoring/Inventory Control Systems, Contaminated Soil/Water Removal/Transport/Disposal/Remediation/Sampling, Etc.

Beale AFB 96-UST Removals/48-AST fuel System Installs
Mather AFB Ground Water Treatment System (5 wells/2mi HDPE Piping )
McClellan AFB Ground Water Treatment System (27 wells/vaults/equip.)
Moffet Field UST Removals
Crows Landing UST Removals
Edwards AFB UST Removals
Travis AFB UST Removals
DOE/INEL (Idaho falls) UST Removals/Radiation Excavation
US Forest Service UST Removals/UST & AST Installs
Oakland Fire Clean-Up Residential Fire Debris Removal/Disposal

Mather AFB has a 45 square mile plume of contamination of Potassium Perchlorate (used to Cool Jet/Rocket Engines During Testing) and some local residents/livestock still drink from ground water wells within this area
The Groundwater treatment Sytem pumps up to 200,000 Gallons from the water table Every day, it is then released into the nearby storm drain system after analysis/testing, I doubt the water table will ever recover.

Project Clients/Agencies
Corps of Engineers, US Forest Service, EPA, OSHA, US Air Force, Federal, State & Private Projects, Environmental Management Dept, Fire Dept, etc.
ARCO, Beacon, Regal (former Wickland Oil Co.), Hundreds of independently owned Service Stations and Commercial Fueling Systems

Developed my own OSHA HAZ Waste Operations & Emergency Response 40hr, 8hr update, 8hr Supervisors, and Confined Space Entry Certification Course (certified over 150 workers)

I could keep going, most of this work was performed when CA implemented Strict new Standards for Petroleum Storage, Monitoring/Inventory Control, Vapor Recovery and most of all, secondary containment.

When removing old galvanized fuel system piping fittings would only be maybe 1 to 3 turns tight, because it was only Gas in the old days!

Re: HAZ Waste Operations

I moved your post to its own thread. You originally posted in a 4 year old announcement thread.
