Re: Interesting Small Scale Hydro Electric System

12 cents is only the generation charge. Then theirs all the other charges for lines, distribution, service, because we can, because we know we can get away with it.....

Large scale hydro has generation costs in the 4 cents range (outside the US).

Just a warning, not wanting to hijack thread. Just want to warn everyone about one of the most dangerous dams out there. They appear in most cases to be totally harmless, though in reality, they are extremely treacherous. They are nick named the drowning dam.

Re: Interesting Small Scale Hydro Electric System

People underestimate those things. Inexperienced paddlers can get pulled over even if they know the dam is there and where the portage pull out is.

If you don't know it's there, you may be out of luck.

15 KW is a $1300 power bill per month, so maybe more than one or two homes. Peak load would be an issue.

So 250 W/hrs per house per day? That's like 3 one hundred watt bulbs running for an hour.

not 250 watt-hours. 250 watts. So those light bulbs all day.

Or 10 led bulbs, a tv, a laptop, a fan all at once all day.

15KW means nothing if it doesn't have a time aspect connected to it.

Correct. But we assume this is continuous until the stream runs out. So 15 KWH every hour. 360KWH a day.

Power plants are not rated in KWH.
