There's a man from my county who has been laying stone in OKC for awhile now. His Dad has called me twice wanting me to take my crew out there. His Dad says he needs masons in a bad way.

I've not ask him what he pays, because I have to much to do here to think about going out there right now.

If I talk to him soon, I will get his number for you ,if you like.

Love that flemish bond. It's so easy to do poorly, with the heads wandering all over the place, but that looks awesome!!

I have a 6000 sq/ft'er coming up in Lake Aluma, right in your back yard. 100k+ stone job, 5500 sq/ft of stone veneer if you might be interested in 7 or 8 months.

That's a lot of rock! Would take me awhile. I have done these last few houses with just me and two other guys...I lay all the rock while they do the brick.

@ #139; are they X's or diamonds?

Just beautiful, all of it!

Been a while since I've done anything like that and then just a fireplace. Too many years since doing a fence or any walls.
Have always loved ornamental brickwork, one of the things that got me started in the trade. (As mentioned in the Timberland contest a few years back.)

Slightly OT: http://www.contractortalk.com/f117/w...r-trade-86730/
#17 If anyone is interested.

Also a huge fan of brick and stone together and try to sell it whenever I can, (if warranted), even if its just some small accent.

Re: Oklahoma Style...

Guess its been awhile since I posted anything, things are deathly slow around here, the work there is is being done for peanuts and I'm getting too old to do it for practice.

Went out looking for work this last week and clicked a few pics of stuff we have done since last post. Have a few houses coming up so things might be picking up a little.

Very nice.

Sorry to hear your slow. A good mason here can charge a kings ransom and get good work. Not many true masons left around.

Very nice. I am surprised you are looking for work, to be honest.

All the best and post as many pictures as you can. Maybe some close ups of the rock work and the details of the transitions to rock.

Thanks.

Re: Oklahoma Style...

The economy in Oklahoma is hot, but building is slow.

The builders in my HBA are dying for lack of work, and OKC builders are in Enid building out spec homes. My regular mason hasn't had a new house to brick in months, and work on our commercial job is about over. I have one for him to do but it is months away.

Sorry to hear that. Cyclical as hell for sure. It'll come back around.

Re: Oklahoma Style...

My entire point about being able to diversify. Tough for trade guys to do, but in our business, we have the steel erections. And we are loaded for the next year. I have 3 homes to build in the coming year, but this is due to ICF specialization, and not typical home building.

I told a fellow contractor at lunch yesterday, this feels a lot like 1985. Reagan and the good economy, but we were starving.

Yup, we ended up moving to Dallas back in 85, lived there for almost 6 years before we came back. Things haven't reached that level here, yet, but I have had spurts here recently that I have been without work for a month at a time. The reserves have been used.

Re: Oklahoma Style...

There is farm land leasing for $4500 an acre close to me, and rigs drilling every day. $40 oil. Something is up and I damned well don't know what. There is money flowing like water in the community, lenders wanting to loan, but no takers.
