Plumbing Dilemma

I just hooked up my washer and dryer. I tapped into the showers hot and cold lines. Iím getting less pressure out of my shower than before even though my washer isnít running. I have turned the valves off to the washer and still the pressure is low. Anything I can do about this?

Re: Plumbing Dilemma

You might have crud in the shower head..or the valves. Try removing the shower head first, turn it on and see how it flows.

Re: Plumbing Dilemma

Ok I will try that. Possible that wood chipping or drywall dust got in the pipes and fittings while I was working. If that doesnít work what should I look for next?

Remove the valve cartridges and inspect.

Even though I am in a water conservation state (CA), I always pull them out and throw them away. Something my plumber taught me

Re: Plumbing Dilemma

Anytime you shutoff a water supply there's a chance of getting crap in the lines especially with age.

Then throw the restrictor in the trash. Makes it easier to rinse the shampoo outta your hair.

Re: Plumbing Dilemma

First thing I do when I buy a new shower head is find and remove the restrictor.

Re: Plumbing Dilemma

Replace the "tees" with one size larger Tees with bushings....?

Check for kinks WHEN THE WATER IS RUNNING if using "Soft" piping. I.e. Pex line kinking partially closed when pressure drops. Non "linear" action as you shut slowly the shower valves.

Install a Pressure gauge on the washer lines

Dirty whole house filter? Dirty water softener.... Partially closed main valve/ stop box....

Line(s) TOO small for length and fittings installed, the tees "broke" the camel's back in regards to GPMs.

Foot valve in tub spout needs replaced/serviced.....
