Popping Concrete

I am a general contractor in business for 25 years. I thought I had seen it all. Poured a 36 x40 slab and about 2 weeks after we poured it, it started popping in about 1 inch pops in differrent places on the slab.

Can anyone tell why it did this. I need an intelligent answer for the home owner.

Re: Popping Concrete

Did it freeze? That can cause a slab to pop.

Re: Popping Concrete

Is there something I can put over the top of it to be able to not tear it out. It was a mono-footing and floor. Would be pretty hard to take it out.

Re: Popping Concrete

Could have been something in the sand/gravel or cement.

Re: Popping Concrete

You don't indicate your location, but it sounds a lot like a freezing problem.

Re: Popping Concrete

Re: Popping Concrete

Hey Dave click on the link that I sent you.
More than likely your slab froze. Next time cover it with plastic & straw for the first few days while it cures.
You've ben in business for 25 yr. & you don't know much about concrete?
Good luck with the HO.

Re: Popping Concrete

There may be a product(s) to resurface your slab.
Resurfacing will not stop the popping.

There are some real concrete pros on here. As soon as I can think of them I'll post their names for you.

Try Concrete Mike & concretemasonry.
