Flash Coat Of Polyurethane Foam With Cellulose

I am building a house in Idaho, zone 6. I was set on using a flash coat of foam with cellulose filling the cavity. In getting a second price, I was informed that this could cause moisture to condensate in the cavity. The information I researched did indeed say that flash and batt could have these problems. Is flash and cellulose the same? The only other "reasonably" priced option is open cell urethane. ??? I live in a colder climate and it can be really windy and I do not want air infiltration. HELP

Splash & Dash / Flash & XYZ are bad practices - you need to hit the code &/or manufacturer minimum to actually get the benefits of it acting as an air / vapor barrier
1.5" Closed Cell & 4" open cell (though that is debatable) if memory serves me correctly

Batts should never be used - blown in materials are better as you don't have to worry about voids, compressions, etc... but it must fill the cavity to the proper density

What code are you referring to? Do you think open cell is a good product?
For some reason I have always thought it was inferior.

I never recommend open cell up front as it carries much of the cost of install, with very little of the extra benefits over batts or blown. If you were to apply .5-1" of closed cell foam and then appropriately densepack the wall cavity to achieve your R-value, I would say your risk is going to be very slim. You can further cut it down by applying complete foam in any bays with water or plumbing lines, or any duct work that may run in an exterior wall cavity.

Are you talking about walls or ceilings? How thick are the walls and ceilings. And are the roofs hot or cold? We need details to answer your question appropriately
