Zinsser 123 For New Drywall?

I recently opened a pro account at Dulux paints. Past week I was painting this kitchen and cabinetry in the evenings so I swung by there to pick up a few supplies I needed a few times last week.

I inquired for new drywall primer and wall paint, for the next small job starting around the end of this month. Just to see what pricing I can get there, as I don't remember the pricing the manager gave me when he called me when he opened the account.

I ask the guy for new drywall primer and he gives me Zinsser 123 Bull Eye and says this is the best we have and the cheapest at the moment. I says to him I want new drywall primer and he tells me this can be used for new drywall.

Am I wrong to assume that Zinsser 123 is not new drywall primer, or better yet not the right primer to seal new drywall?

Do you need it to do all this ? If not just get a good quality latex primer or PVA drywall primer.

We use Zinsser 123 for all our priming, including on new sheetrock. I believe that we get a better finish coat over 123 than over other primers, particularly sprayed.

I think the Zinnser 123 will work just fine and better than a PVA primer would. IMO.

Zinser 123 works well, particularly if it's patch work to help eliminate flashing from new to old. Don't know if Dulux still carries "Wall and Woodwork primer" but I really liked that stuff......I just don't do business with them anymore

I lime all Zinnser products. 123 is always in stock around my shop. Great new drywall primmer and for spot repairs. Sands excellent too.

My SW asked what they could do to get me to buy multi purpose. I said sell it for $12/gal and quit acting like its a cure all.

Much prefer 123 over PVA. 123 does better over the mud on the seams and in the corners. IMHO.

Matt likes smooth walls, no texture.

We have only had Level 5 requested twice. Monterrey or knockdown in Upper Mexico.

We use a PVA from Sherwin Williams.
