This isn't a very good examine question. As the three items will vary according to what you're doing. Interior/exterior, staining, painting, priming, prepping etc. I guess what I would do it figure the three items that best fit what you're doing.

Well i have to admit I did this one time after a long night of drinking and getting called in on a Saturday. It was late fall so it was cold when I left so I managed to get my bibs on but later in the day I warmed up (and I sobered up) I go to take my bibs off and I didn't have pants on. This is the first time I've ever told anyone that.

Maybe that's why you were cold.

Only 3 items? This topic sounds like one of those "if you were stranded on a desert island" type deals.

3 essential tools you should have regardless what you're doing, and they're always in my pockets... I have an entire garage full of tools for whatever else I may be in need of...

a 1 1/2 putty knife scrapes loose paint, gives me a straight edge to follow, opens cans, cuts poly, cleans my roller, trims my brush, cleans windows, opens locked doors, a wedge to keep doors ajar, spackling...and a hundred other things that can't think of at the moment...

a rag for any drip that may need wiping, cleaning my hands, a bandage,

a duster to clean before painting, swat wasps with

Stupid question.
If you are giving a test to a potential employee then why not ask question that might actually matter.
There are no 3 things that will make for a good paint job.
