"Never Have To Paint Your Home Again" !

Comedy Relief: I always marvel how companies are still around advertising a textured coating 20 times thicker than paint. Crushed up walnut shells in an emulsion. Maybe they're using elastomeric these days, not sure. I did a repaint where they sprayed the short wooden overhanging eves too. I'm OK with that. A few areas came off because the previous paint didn't adhere there. It was a bitch to patch that area to match the "20 times thicker than paint" texture. Also, I used up a lot more paint to go over the place. Sucked up more paint than I anticipated. Their textured coating attracts smog, dust, dirt and other air pollution particles more than a smooth surface. If you don't wash it often, you can't pressure wash off the eventual discoloration. It needs a repaint. Yet, they stay in business. "Never have to paint your house again."

Re: "Never Have To Paint Your Home Again" !

i hate it !!

our house has it . bought it with this popcorn-looking finish on it .
they had it over the window and door frames ,, and soffit , and fascia wood, which i`ve change since.
but all the walls , and the gable-end wood has it
i`d have to scrape it all , and re-stucco the whole house to remove it
sucks to paint it too
you can`t cut in easily
you need a inch-or bigger-nap roller cover, or spray it
like you said , you can`t patch it easily , without it looking like a scar.

Re: "Never Have To Paint Your Home Again" !

There may always be business for those serving "never have to do it again'....'one coat coverage'...and similar market homeowners. Haven't you heard? Caulk is the fix for just about anything.

Clearly the personal need to satisfy these claims far outweighs quality.

They just really want to hear it and then get it. It's a match!

Then again some of those companies may be playing the shell game with their names. And there's always the fine print.

I remember seeing the popcorny stuff that layers off. Isn't this more in the tropical climates where people may paint more often? Where' its more of a nagging chore? Where the need to make it easiest is greatest?

Painting really lends itself to this type of thing.

It might not be so bad if they now include some elastomeric emulsion among the crushed up walnut shells. They may do that now. If they don't, that texture sucks up paint like a sponge. Fair warning.

I thought they went the way of Earl Sheib. "I'll paint any car for $99."

The radio ad spot starts off with "Any painters out there aren't going to like me..." Then he goes on with his spiel about never having to deal with painting your house again.

Yes, there are still painting companies out there doing "forever" textured coatings.

The coating might last “forever”, but that doesn’t mean it’ll look good.
