Slate In The Shower (shudder?)

I am renovating a bathroom and building a shower where a tub has been removed. Prior to starting, I shared some pictures with the HO of a tiled rec room I did before. I has a slate floor. The HO said he likes it and wants slate in his bathroom also.

My understanding is that slate and other natural stones are less water-resistant (more absorbent) than ceramic or porcelain. In the rec room I sealed the slate twice. In my mind that might be okay for a bathroom floor, but the HO may want the same material in the shower, including the shower floor.

It is a vacation rental home, with different groups (families) using it every week all summer.

If anyone has put slate throughout a bathroom and shower, or has experience and would strongly suggest not doing so, I am interested in hearing your opinions.

Thank you.

I wouldn't use slate. I'd pick something with less maintenance especially for a rental. Use it for the main floor if they want but something else in the shower would be better, IMO.

Slate and water are not a good match.
