Inexpensive Shower Trench Drain

I have to make my own trench drain in a shower.

The ones they offer just seem to be to much and do not offer enough safety in not leaking after time like a normal drain has a built in secondary drain and does not need to be made out of stainless steel , after all it is a drain.

Any suggestion or tips

Anyone can throw money at a project and make it work, it is the experience and the well earned connections that make the difference

Pretty tough to use the word inexpensive in a project that specs a Trench Drain.

Use one of the commercially available ones...most all are pretty high quality & spendy...but you get what you pay for & will be money ahead...

if you think the cost of the drain is expensive, wait til you see how much the other materials needed for installation cost...

Making your own? That will cost you a fortune if your time is worth anything at all--

What do you consider expensive?

Re: Inexpensive Shower Trench Drain

You can just make everything out of tile and use a standard three piece clamping drain.

I had these made up for a custom job in UBC

Remember there are two types of trench drains. Ones that are primary shower drains and ones that are not.

You can not go out and make a primary shower drain "Cheaply".

You can not design the drain so that the servicing of the plumbing fixtures are blocked.... I.E. Do not design a trench drain that can not be cleaned nor the drain line snaked.

Do not use stainless steel that can rust! Make sure you use the right type of stainless steel. We use 316 and the right solder.

Getting a custom drain made up right costs the same as buying direct from a manufacture. Now if you want a cheap linear drain - something under $250.00 you need to know the right people......

Check out a few locker room showers back before the days of linear drain fabrication, they were built in but they look like crap
