ADA Compliant Refrigerators.....

Does anyone know of a company that makes ADA complaint compact/mini refrigerators with a cubic foot capacity between 8.1 and 10.1 cubic ft?

Summit has a model FFAR9L that is 8.1 cu ft but it's not ADA complaint. I've searched though GE, Maytag, Whirlpool, Danby, Avanti and LG. The other catch is too that is project has to comply with the Buy American Act and NAFTA.

I thought I was pretty damn skookum on ADA requirements. Stoves, sinks and dishwashers. But what ADA requirements does a refrigerator need to meet? I can't think of one off the top of my head

It deals with the force it takes to open the refrigerator/easy of opening with one hand, height of the controls and of the unit.

That is all I was able to find.

There are smaller (undercounter) and larger refrigerators that are ADA complaint but not in the size which we are looking for.

There is a lot more to the equation I think when it comes to fridges. Not only should the fridge be user friendly but the attention to detail in the space planning should also be considered.

I read a great article about ADA and Universal Design the other day and don't recall if it mentioned fridges. I'll double check the article...

I am not aware of any requirements for an ADA compliant ref.
Last summer I dealt with an Architect doing a mini kitchen in a Calif. school. The DSA nor the Architect found any such requirements. There were for everything else though.

Re: ADA Compliant Refrigerators.....

Guess I should've said that they need to be ABA rated but ADA is acceptable.

We think we got the smaller refrigerators fiqured out but we have one that is required to be 8.1 cu foot and be ABA/ADA compliant which we haven't been able to out much on and are probable going to suggest going to a bigger refrigerator that is.

Thanks.
