3'x3' Cultured Marble Shower Caulk Keeps Cracking

I recaulked a shower for a customer a few months ago. The caulk cracked a few weeks later so I went back and did it over. They say it's cracked again. Obviously there is too much movement in the cultured marble wall panels for the caulk to handle. My next thought is to use a LARGE bead of silicone instead of caulk. Any ideas how we can solve this issue, short of pulling the cultured marble panels and rebuilding the shower walls?

What caulk did you use? Sounds like something other than silicone.....and that would be the problem.
I always use the RTV silicone that my cultured products manufacturer stocks with no problems.

Re: 3'x3' Cultured Marble Shower Caulk Keeps Cracking

They wanted the colored caulk to match the marble the first time. I used LOCTITE 10 Oz. Almond Tub & Tile Latex Kitchen and Bathroom Caulk Lowes Item #: 40289 I really can't recall what I used the second time, I suspect it was white GE Silicone (I don't know if it was Silicone I or Silicone II).
So is the answer to use only, ever use silicone on cultured marble?

You should ALWAYS use 100% silicone in wet areas.

Go to colorite.com and have them make you color matched 100% silicone caulking.

My bad trying to remember off the top of my head lol.

I get all my caulk for my tile projects from them, it's really painless. Never had an issue

I have also used 100% sillicone caulk from the grout manufacturers. TEC and Laticrete. Lot's of color choices. Color Rite is good, but buying single tubes is crazy expensive.

Could also add a marble molding to the corners.

That's a good idea, if the thick silicone bead doesn't hold.

I have been taping down both sides of my inside corners pre caulking. Lazer straight finishes. It takes time but there is a noticeable difference regaurdless of how good of a caulker you think you are, and believe Im the best.. : laughing:
