Using Plywood And Backer Board For Shower Pan

Never seen this done before but another guy on my job site sloped plywood, laid pan liner on top then glued durorock over the top mortared the seems and is planning to tile straight on that. Anyone ever done this. Sounds odd to me.

What is stopping that plywood from flexing and cracking the tile the first time some fat phuck steps in there to take a shower?

How did he slope the plywood? What's supporting it underneath?

I've never seen this done. How can a good seal be made around the drain?

And the wrong guy can make the right method fail.

But why not just go right guy, right method?

Curious...when you step on it, how solid? Is the ply under the liner?

It's probably fine as long is it's screwed through the liner to keep it from moving.
