Bluestone Dust Vs Sand Under Flagstone

I am planning a flagstone patio. Im located in MD, winters get cold and summers are hot and humid. I need to cover 550 sq ft with 1 1/2" Pennsylvania flagstone and I was planning on putting it on sand. I went to Irwin Stone and and someone recommended that I use Bluestone Dust instead of the sand. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? thanks in advance

Re: Bluestone Dust Vs Sand Under Flagstone

Stone dust and sand is just like icing on a cake. Both are good, but too much will ruin everything.

The key, no matter which you choose, is to make sure you have no more than 1 inch of sand as your final screed. 3/4" or less is even better. All the work under the patio is done by the crusher run, and the last tiny bit of sand is to help everything blend just right.

I would say use whichever is cheaper, concrete sand around here is more available and cheaper than stone dust.
