Verification Question - Work Experience & Education - Florida

Lisa,

I am in a situation where I worked for a licensed GC as a foreman building a 7 story building 3 years back. The name of the employer and qualifying GC are the same company. My contact is my former direct supervisor, the site superintendent. He left the company 2 years ago on great terms but can verify my employment and work experience. You note that they no longer request a verifier. Does that mean my contact should be a current HR employee, or is the former sufficient for the licensing board, or since they do not verify I am attesting under penalty of law the information I provided is true and correct?

Also, do I have to submit a transcript with my three years of college credits? Also can the college credits be a mix of general business and civil engineering (the latter which I am currently pursuing.)

I appreciate your feedback

Thanks,
Nick

First I will answer the college. It can be any college as long as it is credits from an accredited college.

Second, verification does not happen in the form of a written letter, or signature or any contact.

You list your experience, put the company that was your employer and list the projects. They have access to past records and will be able to see that the qualifier was there during that time.

The experience just has to meet those minimum requirements.

For college, do I include an official transcript?

And the second clarification. You mean they see that my company, the qualifier, pulled the permits and built the project during that period of time?

Thank you for clearing that up for me. It makes it a lot easier than reaching out to human resources, obtaining old W-2ís, or trying to find another employee that is still with the company

I got the first question answered and also am going forward with a service in my area for the application process.

Should I put my contact's phone number or the main company phone number? Furthermore does the board reach out for W-2's and should I get in touch with human resources? Not sure if that is answered in your last response (i.e.: verifier signature that I performed the work vs. verified that I actually worked for the company). It's going to be a long process and want to make sure everyone is informed and there are no hiccups.

Thanks again

You should fill in the contact information as it requests it.

No they will not reach out and W2s are not necessary unless there is a reason for board review.

Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss more in depth about your specifics.

Lisa is the expert on this... I looked into getting my Florida GC license this past year and she walked me through the process step by step. You would do well to hire her to help you... I'm an excellent GC - don't claim to know much about licensing. Best advice I ever got was to hire people to do the things we aren't qualified to do!

Another vote for hire Lisa if you want it to go painless as possible.
If you like bureaucratic red tape and going back and forth with them due to not using the right keyword they look for, then to it yourself.

Hi Lisa,

I passed all parts of the GC exams and have 3 years worth of college credits, and have

worked for a GC 2 years, but he has paid me in cash. can this be a problem if board

reviews the application? how can I prove to them I worked for this company?,

also I have not told employer I plan to become a GC and if he denies my expirence?

Thank you
