Speaking Of A.C...

I knew I should have kept my mouth shut last night about how cool it is in my house.

Woke this morning to no cold air.

Air handler in the basement works fine.

Changed out the capacitor and...nada...

The fan does not come on and there is no "hum" coming from the condenser.

Have checked the circuit breaker...ok
Had some light thunderstorms last night but never lost power as far as I know.

That's all I got.

I'm screwed...aren't I?

Stupid attack.

One of the two quick disconnect 30 Amp fuses was shot.

I guess it's time...they have been there through two different systems since 1978.

Happy days and cold air are here again.

Didn't have time to even check the old capacitor this morning. The only place that was open and sold them was at the beach and had to go there anyway. They closed at 11 and I had 45 minutes in beach traffic. Made it by 10:55....

Oh well...new capacitor for $10.25.

2 fuses...$15.

You got something weird like NYGutterguy?

Or you got an outside condenser?

You got an outside disconnect?

If you do, you checked the fuses in the disconnect?

If you read 220 across the load side of the disconnect:

Re: Speaking Of A.C...

Back in May, walked into local auto parts. Said I needed two of whatever taillamp/stoplamp bulbs my truck takes & a package of whatever fuses the cig ighter uses (portable air compressor blew out both).

Pulled out a 20, held out hand expecting change back.
He said something like "that will be 21.80".

Still haven't replaced the damned fuses.

Re: Speaking Of A.C...

Granted, its done, and fixed. But, I like the Square-D disconnects. It's just a breaker switch, no fuses necessary.
