CHP System

Costing out a high end job- client is interested in using CHP; possibly, "Freewatt Plus Warm Air System".
Anyone have experience/thoughts/advice?

Re: CHP System

I wasn't familiar with the freewatt plus warm air system that you mentioned, so I did a google.

My take, when it comes to hvac, k.i.s.s.. Fancy folks, just like po folks, want reliable heat, and should any drama arise, they don't want the tech saying "umm, ummm" and replacing parts on a whim.

Make sure the ductwork is money, and I would go with standard two stage 95k furnace coupled with a simple, Simon 13 s.e.e.r. a/c. Save the money for a "bitchin kitchin". (opinion)

If they want a nat. gas generator, that wouldn't be a bad addition, but I based on a little google reasearch, I wouldn't put all my eggs in that basket.

Spendy & Trendy....

Often hi end folks want stuff to brag/chat over Happy Hour...

If you provided a CHP system I would be concerned where the warranty & service will come from.

As cool as it is for them to brag about what they got....

If there are problems with it EVERYONE in the countryside will know you had a hand in it....

Re: CHP System

I don't know of anybody bragging about their top of the line h.v.a.c. system. We are like umpires or referees, if nobody talks about us, then we've done our job.

Re: CHP System

I like the overall design and I'm sure it would be awesome, right up until the time it stops working. Parts and service are likely going to tough to find. Off hand, I don't know of any stocking distributors or supply houses anywhere, so unless there is one right in your backyard, I probably wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole, at least until that situation is rectified. I believe the manufacturer has remote system monitoring capabilities, but you still need someone qualified that is physically present with the required parts to service it. On the other hand, sometimes this is just the risk associated with being the first on the block with the newest cutting edge tech. I suppose it's a gamble that could either pay off big, or leave you weeping on the curb with your head between your knees.
