Sprinkler Valve Alarm Connect??

Hello all,

I thought I would ask this question here since those that frequent
here are filled with an abundance of knowledge.

Now that I have "Buttered Up" everybody here is the question.

I am connecting a Fire Alarm system to a new sprinkler system.
The valves installed are a bit different in that the connection
where the wire leads exit the valve body has a unknown
female thread.

http://www.aleumusa.com/products/but...e-grooved-300/

It is smaller than a 1/2" NPT so I can't use a Chase Nipple into a
box for the wire splice. There was a rubber threaded hex nut
already installed but I don't think it will hold up as a metal
Chase Nipple.

This rubber plug appears to have a straight thread not a tapered
which is also odd. The outside diameter of the threads is .790".

Does anyone know what kind of thread this might be and/or
what can be used to adapt to it in order to make a secure
connection of a junction box??

In the picture the Gray fitting is a 1/2" NPT PVC the Black on the right is the fitting in question that fits the female in the valve body.
Looks close but NOT!!

Sadly the instructions are skimpy on the details.

Thanks for any assist,

Les

Re: Sprinkler Valve Alarm Connect??

Does it take a 1/2" NPS?

Try a 1/2" liquid tight connector.

Hi Inner,

I will try but the OD of the Rubber Fitting thread appears
to small by about .050" .

Looking at the NPS standards it states the fitting is straight
which is what this looks like.

I have a feeling it might have some relation to metric somehow.

I will get a Liquid Tight as you suggest and try it.

Thanks!!

Actually no. I tried the PVC fitting but could not get to actually grab.
I chewed up the end of the threads. I was actually half tempted to
warm it up with my torch and jam it in and let it conform.

That is a bit of a joke Griz.
I called a couple of times and all I could do was leave a message.

That was hours ago. Still waiting for my phone to ring.

I get the feeling they aren't too much for the communication thing.

Sales >> Leave a message.
Customer Order Inquiry >> Leave a message.
All other calls >> Leave a message.

Even though the valve is labeled "Made in USA"
the Corporate Office is in Seoul.

Really??

What choice did you press. 1 - 2 - 3??

The definition of "standard american thread" is odd.

Re: Sprinkler Valve Alarm Connect??

Inner,

Looking at the Liquid Tight fitting and they look like the
threads are 1/2" NPT. I don't see how it would make a
difference.

Trying to find a fitting that has a NPS spec. No luck!!

Re: Sprinkler Valve Alarm Connect??

Griz,

Just tried again and talked to Daniel.
They are at a show in Texas so that explains
the phone answering issue.

I asked the specific question of the thread size.

He said he is going to check his sources and call me back.

WE might driving him nuts!!

Re: Sprinkler Valve Alarm Connect??

Ok,

So Daniel called me back and said............ it is 3/4" thread.

I said it can't be, if it was the 1/2" NPT would have fell it, which it did not.

I asked was it a machine thread and what are the threads per inch??

He said, he wanted to get me the correct information so he will contact
the home office in Korea and will get back to me tomorrow.

Sooooooo now I wait..........................

I am having a bad feeling. Maybe it will get better.

Re: Sprinkler Valve Alarm Connect??

Ok!! So here is the update of current status.

I have waited all day for Daniel to return my call with
the needed input. Didn't happen.

Did some extra investigation last evening.

The best I can get is that the fitting might be a BSPP straight thread size.
At this point I can't prove it but I think it is as close as I can get.

Assuming that it is................... then I have a big challenge with finding a source with decent pricing.

I did have a conversation with the sprinkler guy that is installing
the valves. He understands my frustration and said he will pass
on the concerns with others.

I need to have another conversation with Daniel and push my
need for what it is.

I will call again tomorrow, since maybe he lost my number.

Wish me luck!!

Les

Re: Sprinkler Valve Alarm Connect??

Just take the threaded bung to a hardware store and compare it to their gauge.

Re: Sprinkler Valve Alarm Connect??

Inner,

I could try that but honestly I don't think it would help.

I talked to Daniel today. He first said that it was a 3/"NPT
To which I said that is not possible since the rubber plug would
just drop through the hole. It does not!!

I got his cell number and sent him a picture of 4 items.
3/4" NPT 90 deg ell
3/4" NPT Pipe Nipple
Black Rubber Plug mystery
1/2" NPT PVC adapter
With a tape measure.

See the attached picture.

He said, he will get back to me with an answer.
Still waiting.

Sure looks like 1/2", sure you didn't accidentally cross thread the 1/2" box connector in there? Could the threads just have a gnarly burr on them and need to be chased out?

This can't this complicated...

Inner,

The Black Plug has a O.D. of the threads of .790
and they are straight not tapered.

The 1/2" NPT thread has an O.D. of .850
and they are tapered. I am measuring near the bottom.

With about eight(8) wires hanging out of the hole makes
trying to chase the hole a bit "complicated" to say
the least.
