Nadra

I lost a little respect for Nadra recently. It seems that they censure posts on their linkedin group.

Background: In regards to Glen's new book on decks, some guy thinks that he should include a chapter on the history of deck building. He claimed to be the first deck builder specialist. Here is a partial quote.

"That is, my company created the deck builder specialist in April 1988."

I basically responded that it was a silly statement. I was building decks only, in 1978, and that I was sure there were other builders long before me.

This was about 10 days ago. I just learned that my reply is in the pending category, whatever that is. I don't think that it was a malicious response. I just thought that his statement needed some clarification.

Re: Nadra

I think "pending" just means they have to approve it first.

That's probably what all comments go through. Whether or not they approve it though is where you can have an issue

Nobody cares for honesty and integrity anymore. It's all business. Whoever can get away with the most wins.

Re: Nadra

There were other responses that were posted almost immediatly. They did not question the posters qualifications. It's been 11 days, I don't think that my response will see the light of day. Here is his complete post.

"A book about decks should include ground zero. That is, my company created the deck builder specialist in April 1988. This is documented in a newspaper article on our web site www.evergreendecks.com . We offered pre-cut deck kits at that time. The following year we offered custom deck services to builders and homeowners. This is also documented by Crossen Builders who used our services for 1000s of decks.

I do not think another deck building company can document an earlier start up date. The risk we took in 1988 is an important historical event for the deck building industry."

And my response.

"Sorry, but you are kidding, right. Maybe not to your scale, but I was building nothing but decks starting in 1978 and I have to believe that there were many before me. "

Re: Nadra

from their site:

Quote:
In 1986 Evergr**n Decks became the first deck specialist in Connecticut and probably the United States.
That's a pretty bold statement with nothing to back it up. "Probably"? Really?

Funny the date keeps changing, too.

Re: Nadra

Mark, have you posted on their stuff before? If so did those comments make it on the web? Most blog software is setup so new posters have to have their comments reviewed before posting to a live site. However NADRA seems to be fairly horrible about their website updates and could very well be weeks behind on approving comments.

Re: Nadra

There is a company in town that has been deck specialist since 1985 so that guy can go jump in a lake. He didn't invent deck building and anyone who thinks they did is clearly a moron.

Re: Nadra

Yes, I've posted before on their site, including even earlier on the same thread. Comments were always posted the same day.

Originally when it didn't show up, I assumed that I must have closed the window before I saved the reply. Later I discovered I have a pending box, and there it was.

This isn't so much about the guy's highly questionable claim, but about Nadra's moderator that decided my response wasn't warranted or was defamatory. There is a flag next to the pending box.

Re: Nadra

By the way, the state of California has had a deck classification for Contractors since before his company was created.

Re: Nadra

I built my first deck in 1985 and I think he worked on my crew........

I did start in the business back in 1985 and I know there were plenty of other companies busting out decks way before that yokel....

Re: Nadra

He's a Nadra master deck builder specialist, as high a rating as there is in the nadra world. They could not have anyone dispute the claims of someone like that.

There were several folks doing business as deck specialist here in austin before he started.

A bogus claim by someone who never leaves his little part of the world no doubt.

Re: Nadra

Yeah I am part of that linkdin group too. I thought I would check out a a little bit and see what they are up to. Having a professional deck building organization with credentials does hold some merit as a whole and could be a good idea.

I have seen responses repremanded for not being 'positive' or uplifting to their authority.

The more that I read their self righteous chatter the less I want to do with them.

Re: Nadra

Come on all you Nadra members, chime in.

Actually no surprise they would monitor their forum & only allow those that spew the nadra song & dance to post on their site.

Re: Nadra

They do allow non Nadra members in. Possibly hoping that they will join.

I am amazed that no one has questioned that guy's statement though. I guess they construe that as a negative comment and not allowed.

Well I guess we shall see as mine is also in moderation and I am a member of NADRA - I wonder if they moderate all posts or simply your first one or two. One would think that for a "locked" group, once you are allowed in you should be able to post freely unless you cross some line...
