That is some fine work .
The clearances seem very tight , are you not concerned about expansion there or is the temperature high enough that the joints are expected to open ? Or are the runs short enough to limit the expected movement?

It was 72 degrees at install. And movement doesn't happen very much across the width it happens more through the length. We gapped accordingly.

Also I will add. We bevel all the butt ends with a two to three degree bevel so just the 'nose' is tighter. We left 1/4" everywhere an end terminates at a solid surface.

The saw basically stays at this angle the whole job.

Re: Deck Over A Steep Grade. ( 2:1 )

Do you have any trouble with the narrow ends of the tapers/scribes on projects like his? I assume extra backing where needed and face screws where the hidden fasteners won't work?

This deck looks amazing, it would be an absolute dream for for a younger carpenter, like myself, to participate in a project of his scope and quality. Very inspirational.

Re: Deck Over A Steep Grade. ( 2:1 )

I would think the clearance needed to clip into the adjoining board would create the gap by the wall

Nice work as always!

Looks great, and nice that there weren't any skinny rip/scribes where it met the tile.

Some drone close-up's might be in order.

Notice the small piece in the corner has no visible fasteners? We fastened it to the side of the longer piece next to it with aggressive threaded screws.

Yep trapease. Two reasons. The color and the threads.

AND a simple turning of the screw dials in the spacing. It's the fine details that add up.

I asked my HO if my trailer was in his way and I would move it if it were. Here was his response.

Re: Deck Over A Steep Grade. ( 2:1 )

So using these new fasteners they tend to suck the boards down more. So I needed to fine tune my ladder blocks a little.
