Re: Composite Deck With Outdoor Shower

Cali, aren't you worried about the ground contact and the amount of water with that trex?

Nope, not one bit. Why would water be an issue? It's water proof. Now I would never build anything like that out of wood. It's also within all Trex specs. Not to mention The Trex Company came out there and checked it all out. They came out because they are friends, but non the less they checked it out while they were there.

I was checking , you know your stuff. I built a transcends deck 13" off the ground and my lumber yard said trex isn't rated for ground contact , Azek was the only one rated for that. I still can't figure out why trex doesn't seal the bottom of their boards.

Nope your lumber yard misguided you. It can be as little as 3.5" from the ground. However I talked to the Trex VP of marketing and he said it's been tested completely submerged without failure.
That's the Transcends product. The old Accents was a different animal, which is why it's been discontinued.

Re: Composite Deck With Outdoor Shower

Beautiful showers! I hope the trend catches on, and when I finally get around to building my own deck, I'd love to incorporate one!

But now that we got the technical aspects out of the way, I have to tell my outdoor shower story. . .

Last spring, I was working on an old house that shared a well with the neighbors. We needed to turn off the water at the pump house so I sent my (manly) foreman to ask the neighbors first because the well was on their property. He goes to the front door but hears water running on the side of the house. Thinking somebody was watering plants, he walks around and catches the woman of the house totally naked, shampooing her hair in an outdoor shower! Instead of being cool about it, he takes off in a full sprint, runs right past me, eyes big as salad plates, and hides in the garage of the house we were working on! I thought he'd seen a ghost! When he finally calmed down, he admitted she was pretty hot. We still give him a hard time for freaking out because he saw a naked woman!
