We had a small deck installed a couple months ago with Veranda. The butts are doing that, but less so (more tolerable).

This butt was right when we installed it on 72 degree Temps. It's 51 right now. So this gives you an idea how much it opens up.

Re: Butting Trex Boards To Picture Border Have A Lip

Trex boards dont swell at the ends and all boards are nearly exact thickness. One thing that can cause this is if you dont pre drill your cortex you get a bit of composite mushrooming in between the board and the framing member.
Other than that cant say I've seen this issue on any of my decks, I did 15000 square feet of composite last year.

They don't swell at the ends I really don't care what you tell me
I always square off the factory ends maybe that has something to do with it.
I built a 1500 square foot trex display at my lumber yard and I look at every day during all seasons here in newengland and cant seem to even remotely agree with you

Re: Butting Trex Boards To Picture Border Have A Lip

Is that a grooved board as the tread lip? It's common practice to use solid edge boards so you don't see the unsightly groove.
