End Of Life Smokes

I have a Kidde combination hard wire smoke detector carbon smoke all that anyway it's been in service for quite a while now and for the second time in about four months in the middle of the night it starts yelling fire for about 3 minutes then stops.

I know the battery backup start to chirp when they go bad but I don't know if this is a symptom of age either way I got to put an end to it

Any experience?

They go bad. Supposed to replace every 10 years anyway.
Small potatoes dollar-wise, so....meh.

Re: End Of Life Smokes

a few experiences with alarm activation for no apparent reason.

if it was the basic chirp i need a battery condition i'd replace the battery.

however, going in to alarm mode for no reason just replace the unit.

maker certain you put it in the trash outside instead of in the kitchen trash....

I had one alarming for no apparent reason. It turned out the circuit board in it was frying.

They're cheap, change them on schedule. The house you save may be your own.....

Re: End Of Life Smokes

Our 6 month old, interconnected units went off in the middle of the night recently. I have no idea why, but figured that maybe the ceiling AC
return (upstairs hallway) pulled some dust or something across the detector. The fan is powerful, and one of these days I'll get around to stepping down the fan speed. Just a guess.

Re: End Of Life Smokes

Make sure to take out the backup battery.

Your wife doesnít want to go sort through the dump trailer in your driveway in the middle of the night when they chirp.

Mine didnít, anyway.

Re: End Of Life Smokes

Happened to me after 2 years in our upstairs hall. I put in the other more expensive type, and it seems to have stopped. It being just outside the bathroom door may or may not have played into it, who knows?

Re: End Of Life Smokes

Chirping is one thing, repeating Fire, Fire , fire for 10 minutes is jarring.

Happened a couple of months ago in the middle of the night and just stopped then again last night. I think it was the multi function one or ones in the hall the bedroom ones remained idle

Re: End Of Life Smokes

I have a love hate relationship with the new interconnected smoke alarms.

In my house they are all connected and then connected to like 100db Sounders.

Great if there is a fire.

Total pain in the ass if you set one off by accident and every single one goes off.

I was a Marlboro light guy then Parliaments before I quit in 05.

Do yourselves a favor and quit, whatever it takes. You may get anxiety over it but better than the alternative

I smoked reds, then lights (50+ years), quit the exact moment my youngest daughter asked me to quit 8ish years ago.

From the moment I quit until this moment not a single instance of anxiety.

My wife asked me why I quit for her----easy, she was the only one who asked me to quit, not tell me to quit.
