Have to wonder why people bother with mesh when paper works better and is easier and faster to work with?

Paper in corners leaves a finer corner and you can run corner tools over it to get a perfect finish.

Paper tape can be applied with an automatic taper (bazooka) where mesh tape can not.

Mesh tape probably has its place for the home handyman but paper is the way to go guys!

When doing a small room I find that mesh is easier. I use hot mud on all but the final coat. Paper is not suited for hot mud.

Paper tape can be applied with an automatic taper (bazooka) where mesh tape can not.

But mesh also doesn't need a bonding coat like paper, hence, no need for a bazooka.

Well I am not a handyman and I use it. I also am not a full time drywaller, so I guess it has it's place other than what you think.

my father in law would kick my b*** if I use mesh on his house.

the only time that I would use mesh is on a plaster wall for some hairline cracks.

when I went to california most of the stores all use mesh in their taping, and it look like crap.

Re: Using Mesh Tape For Inside Corners

All we have to do is convert one guy over to paper instead of mesh and we've done our good deed for the day.
I looked at precision drywall's inside corner taping video.
A+ brother. I suggest people take a look at that. I liked the trick with the corner roller especially. very nifty.

Re: Using Mesh Tape For Inside Corners

The discussion has migrated to include mesh for any purpose. I would not use it on an inside corner, but I would wager any of you "know-it-alls" to stop by any of my jobs and show me that my mesh tape jobs are any lesser quality than yours. I would put up $1000. Any takers?

Re: Using Mesh Tape For Inside Corners

The real problem with mesh is that it doesn't last the test of time. It looks great when when it's finished and Homeowner doesn't know any better. Years later as temperature and humidity cause it to break etc. I learned this the hard way. I admit.
Paper only now. Mesh goes in garbage can along with easy sand durabond.
Just because they sell it at Home Depot or bLowe's does not mean it is good.

And just because it failed for doesn't mean that you installed it properly.

I have mesh on jobs that has lasted more then 15 years...

Again, I am not talking new construction. This is strictly my experience with remodeling.
