Curious if this is happening more on steeper pitch roofs, meaning much steeper?

Timber framed - right on the vault or flat ceiling? Same joist span?

I see it more on floor joist ceilings than roof truss ceilings. For whatever that’s worth.

I hung my son's 100 year old basement that was framed and paneled 50 years ago. We demo'd the paneling and hung USG board. My taper is the best I have ever seen and we went over every square inch with 500 watt halogen lights. It was perfect when he finished. Two months later there are "buttons" in about 20 random locations. We have no clue what is happening. 90 years experience between my taper and me, and we are stumped.

Re: Usg Screw Buttons ??

Yes, but all the "buttons" are at the top of the standups where I don't glue. It can't be a moisture problem because the basement is always dry and the lumber is at least 50 years old.

Re: Usg Screw Buttons ??

Lots of people have been complaining about screw pops ever since the introduction of light weight dry wall. I have had the issue for years especially on ceilings. The thought is that the light weight dry wall absorbs a certain amount of moisture and then when installed and heat rises to the ceiling the dry wall drys out causing it to shrink back from the screws and creating screw pops. This has been a complaint ever since the introduction of light weight dry wall.If you do some research on this subject you will find the same complaints. I think years ago there was an extensive discussion on the very subject on CT.
