Thank you for understanding.

I have been using soap for over 10 years. Just a teaspoon roughly in a 5 gallon bucket of mud. It works.

what is the soap going to do? I have used it in cement work when doing Stucco to make the cement lighter, but can't seem to understand what its going to do in mud.

It helps with the air bubbles.
It makes the mud creamy and seem to flow better.
It makes it easier to sand.

The key is just a little bit however.

I'm not a big fan of mixing water in my mud (will if I have to).
I just like a little bit of Dawn in my USG green or purple lid.

About 5 years ago they even did a write-up about it in Walls and Ceilings.

It's very commonplace now among finishers, not so much when I started doing it.

Four different colors of mud so we don't get confused which coat we are on and if we have gone over everything.

Get the apple scented Dawn soap. Works great for getting that smooth finish and also smells nice.
