I tried to search and came up empty, and the USG site said nothing either. Someone told me that you cant use green board on ceilings, Yea, or nay.

1/2" Green board can be installed on 12" centers but if you have 16" centers then you need 5/8".I dont remeber exactly but I think the weight of the board is the reason.

PS Many guys swear they have no issue using regular in baths.

Try ext. soffit board if you are looking for something better than reg board.

check with your local drywall supplier and see what they have.

Re: Mold Tough Rock On Ceiling??

I read the link on the old thread, and I can appreciate the want to "over build" or sell the best option of Dens armor but I dont understand why everyone becomes so stubborn.
I have only seen 1 or 2 bad ceilings that were shot from lack of maintainence or a fan. What I have seen are alot of regular drywalled ceilings that could last another life cycle. MR board can only add insurance.

Unless you have a careles client, with low ceilings and no fan I cant see the value of the extra cost or work involved with Dens armor IMO

You do realize that some areas have banned the use of green board?
they did it for a reason not just because they can (like some inspectors)

their are other boards out there that are moisture resistant that are a big improvement over green board.

Sounds to me like your being a little "stubborn" letting go of the green board Just let it go

FYI I have an inspector license. MR is not allowed over vapor retarder ---which can be in a ceiling or behind a tile wall. Other wise its acceptable. Wet locations --never a good idea from what we learned in the 80's. Hence the code.

Re: Mold Tough Rock On Ceiling??

Thanks Guys. Got a call back from USG tech support. The new Mold Tough Green board can be installed on bath ceilings, up to 24" o.c. Just not directly over a shower head or steam shower. They said nothing of vapor retarders or 12" o.c. requirements. Pass it on..
