How are the rest of the pros in here getting to a level 5 finish ?
currently I ; bed tapes, 3 coats (2 in angles) and spray/back roll synko pre coat.
I am tossing around the idea of picking up a grayco mark 4, but wonder how much sanding will be involved after spraying thinned down finishing mud, and/or what kind of finish I will get, as opposed to the high build underbody im using now.

I am happy with the finish im getting now, but wonder if I can spray a fairly thick coat ,if it will replace my third (skim coat) and also save buckets of $ by replacing the expensive pre coat with affordable topping mud ?

The Mark(s) do a great job with skim-coating. I shot mud through it with a big tip and did not wipe it down or sand it but for a glass like finish I would probably squeegee it down. With just shooting mud through the tip it gave the surface an almost back-rolled look and great for a level five finish, IMO. Hope this helps.
